Events, Training & Volunteering Opportunities

Working in partnership with Parliamentary outreach services and local community organisations, BSWN is hosting a series of local events to increase your understanding of how you can engage with civic and democratic structures both locally and nationally. Learn how to participate in local decision making that impact's your life, understand the Parliamentary process; how to influence the development of law and the process of political decision making. BSWN is also providing a 3 week sponsored training course leading to a recognised qualification in the Training and Teaching profession.

Democracy & Participation Events

 

This event will explain how your local Council works, new government policies - “Localism”, “ Big Society” and “Local Enterprise Partnership".  The work of Parliament and how you can get involved; presented by the Parliamentary Outreach team. The session will involve activities, quizzes and opportunities to ask your Local MP and Leader of Council questions about how they see the future.

The event will cover:

  • Presentation from local MP and leader of Council
  • How to get involved in local policy
  • Legislation
  • Question and Debates
  • Accessing useful information

Dates: Swindon, 15th September 2011, Gloucester, 23rd September 2011, Plymouth, 30th September 2011, Dorset, 6th October 2011 and Wiltshire, 22nd November.

Social  Action!

 

Are you interested in people, social organisation’s and communications with an awareness of the importance of social action, looking for a challenge and a reward?

Then this opportunity may be for you; develop skills in the field of social media, training interviewing, the use of video, editing, and production of documentary and online content. Learn to support people and the knowledge and skills needed to develop effective community action.

Then you might want to take up one of 'ten" volunteer places that are available that include a 3 week sponsored training leading to a useful qualification. Successful participants will obtain a qualification that would support a career teaching, training, advocacy and public presentation. Interested ? You should live or work in the southwest of England in Bristol/Devon, Gloucester and Plymouth/Cornwall, be prepared to commit to two day’s of tutored trainings per week.

Dates: 15th, 16th, 22nd, 23rd, 29 and 30th September 2011.
